The Pathfinders are a church youth group, made up of guys and girls between the ages of 10 and 16. The Pathfinders have been around since 1950, while the Central Tablelands Pathfinders were established around 10 years ago.
This very special delivery team consists of 6 drivers and a dozen young people who battled the scorching heat of Summer to deliver the Yellow Pages to their community. The Pathfinders delivered over 9000 books across a three-week period, with daily temperatures nearing 40 degrees.
The Pathfinders distributed the Yellow Pages to fundraise towards giving their church Youth Room a makeover, and to put aside money for a massive upcoming Camporee.
“Any fundraiser is a lot of work, and often only raises a couple of hundred dollars,” said Megan, team co-ordinator of the Pathfinders. “But delivering the Yellow Pages, we got all our fundraising over and done with in one go, instead of having to do bits and pieces throughout the year.”
“The logistics and co-ordination involved with delivering Yellow Pages was challenging but manageable. It is a big job, but you do get good support, and a good payout for all your efforts.”
“It was great watching our young people working together and encouraging each other. Some of the boys used it as training for a hike we had coming up, and the girls liked seeing all the different houses. They all have great ‘yellow pages’ stories about their experiences, and are still talking about it months later!”
“Michelle from GDR was fantastic to work with. She gave us a lot of help and advice, and was very approachable.”
